What it does

The Music Machine is a browser-based collection of music activities for primary classrooms. Its four modules cover rhythm, singing, notation and orchestral instruments, with large controls for interactive whiteboards and activities teachers can lead with a whole class.

Four ways to run a music lesson

  • Beatz generates rhythms for clapping or percussion, with notation, syllables, backing grooves and playback controls.
  • Sing combines solfa hand signs, colours, scales and songs for singing and echo activities.
  • Symbolz provides games for recognising musical notation and symbols.
  • Orchestra introduces instruments through an interactive seating plan, recordings and classroom games.

The modules include teacher controls for choosing activities and difficulty. Worksheets and posters extend the screen activities into the classroom. The site maps its material to the Australian music curriculum from Foundation to Year 6.

Browser access and current availability

The public app works without an installation or student account. Its touch-friendly layout and full-screen views suit a classroom display. Teachers should check sound playback on the actual classroom computer before a lesson.

Access is currently free during the pre-launch period. The developer says pricing will be announced in January 2027, so the current free classification should not be read as a permanent pricing commitment. The public activities can be inspected now. This review did not assess pupil outcomes or curriculum coverage independently.

Alternatives to The Music Machine

Chrome Music Lab is an external collection of browser experiments for exploring rhythm, melody and sound. Choose it for open-ended musical exploration rather than the Music Machine’s teacher-led activity modules.

Musicca is an external alternative for structured practice in notes, rhythm, intervals, chords and scales. Its exercises are a closer fit for individual practice than a whole-class smartboard session.
