What it does

musitool is a free browser toolkit for tuning instruments, checking sung notes and exploring vocal range. Its chromatic tuner, ukulele tuner, vocal-range test and pitch detector give musicians visual feedback without installing an app or creating an account.

Tune an instrument or follow a melody

Open the tuner, allow microphone access and play one clear note at a time. Auto mode names the nearest note, while instrument modes show standard string targets for guitar, ukulele, violin and bass. Voice mode follows a held sung note.

  • Read the note name and see whether its pitch is sharp or flat.
  • Change the A4 reference frequency and play reference tones for tuning by ear.
  • Use the dedicated ukulele tuner for standard, low-G, baritone and D tunings.
  • Follow a pitch trace and keep a log of held notes in the pitch detector.
  • Copy logged notes as text or play them back to check a simple melody.
  • Use guided or free singing to find the lowest and highest notes you can hold steadily.

Browser setup and privacy

The tools run on phones, tablets and computers in a current browser. Live detection needs a microphone and permission to use it. The developer states that microphone audio is analysed on the device and is not uploaded. Reference tones provide a way to tune by ear when a microphone is unavailable.

The tools are free, with no account required. Use a quiet space and sound one string or note at a time for a steadier reading.

What the readings can tell you

The pitch detector follows individual notes. It does not extract a melody from a complete mix or transcribe uploaded MP3 files. A vocal-range result suggests a possible voice type from the notes captured; falsetto, head voice and overlapping ranges can affect that suggestion.

The About page publishes the developer's pitch-engine tests on synthetic signals and research recordings. Those results have not been independently reproduced for this listing, and a microphone, room noise and playing technique can affect real-world readings.

This genuine interface capture shows the tuner before microphone activation, with instrument choices and reference-tone controls. It does not represent a measured accuracy test. The hero uses the official wordmark and unchanged interface capture within generated editorial artwork.

  • Musicca's online tuner provides microphone-based tuning and reference information for guitar, bass, ukulele and violin. Consider it when instrument tuning is the main job and you also want access to Musicca's wider practice tools.
  • Tuner Ninja is a focused browser tuner for instruments that produce a steady pitch. It is another option when you mainly want a direct tuning display rather than a vocal-range test or a held-note log.
