What it does
GearMatched helps musicians and producers shortlist studio monitors for their room, budget and intended use. Its browser questionnaire combines speaker measurements and manufacturer specifications with practical setup details, so you can narrow the options before researching individual models or arranging an audition.
Match the speakers to the setup
The questionnaire starts with the main job: mixing and production, electronic music and DJ work, desk use, or mastering. The ranking changes the weight given to accuracy, room fit, output level, bass extension and features according to that choice.
- Account for room size, treatment, listening distance and placement near a wall or on a desk.
- Filter against budget and required connections.
- Compare bass reach and estimated output headroom for the intended use.
- See the distinction between models with measurements and those supported only by maker specifications.
- Check the published scoring method and linked source material before relying on a recommendation.
What the ranking uses
The methodology draws on Spinorama data and original reviewers, including Audio Science Review and Erin’s Audio Corner. The catalogue also contains models without a suitable measurement. Those entries receive a “Specs only” badge and are treated differently in the ranking. A catalogue entry should not be assumed independently measured simply because the service uses measurement data elsewhere.
The room-fit and headroom estimates use simplified assumptions. They are useful for making a shortlist, but they do not measure your actual room or establish how a speaker will sound at your listening position. The maker says some catalogue values are still awaiting a second human check.
Free access and shop links
GearMatched is free to use in a browser without an account. It displays prices in euros or US dollars, using recorded street prices and labelled conversion estimates where necessary. Confirm current pricing with the retailer.
Some shop links earn the service an affiliate commission. GearMatched says those links do not affect its ranking. That is the service’s disclosure, rather than an independent audit of the scoring.

Alternative to GearMatched
Spinorama is an external alternative for comparing speaker measurements, filtering the catalogue and exploring rankings directly. Choose it when you want to investigate the measurement curves yourself rather than begin with a room questionnaire.
